Frequently Asked Questions
Sealcoating is a process not unlike painting your house. The asphalt in your driveway can deteriorate due to exposure to the sun, heavy traffic, oil spills ice and snow, etc. The sealcoating process involves applying a tar based emulsion to help seal and protect the asphalt from the elements.
Answer: As part of the sealcoating process, we will prepare the driveway and fill any significant cracks prior to applying the sealcoat. Taking the time to do it right will add significantly to the quality and longevity of your newly repaired driveway.
Answer: It is typically ready for foot traffic in 12 hours, however it should not be driven on in less than 24 hours after we complete the installation. If you can wait 48 hours, that’s even better.
Answer: No. If moisture is present in the cracks when filled with the sealant, it can create steam which prevents the product from adhering correctly. This greatly reduces the quality and longevity of the repair.
Rain is also a factor. Sealcoat should never be applied if rain is anticipated within a 24 hour period.
Answer: Sealcoating prices range from .10 to .28 per square foot plus/minus any additional preparation needed before the sealcoat is applied.
